Title

Name of the database as supplied by the
authors or data vendors.
Example:
A search for “growth“
within Title would return,
among others, the study whose title is: "Stabilization
and Growth
in Transition Economies, 1989 – 1994"
Abstract

Short description of the dataset, prepared by
DDCN using the documentation supplied by the data
provider.
Example: A
search for "growth" within Abstract
would return, among others, the study whose abstract
is: "Annual
macro cross-section data from 1989 to 1994 on transition
economies in Eastern Europe that were previously part
of the former Soviet Union. The data are a
summary of the experience of
growth
and stabilization in those
economies". One
other study which will appear in results is the one with
the following list of variables "Real per
capita GDP, real per capita GDP growth,
population, growth
in population, investment to GDP at PPP, terms of
trade shock." The search within
Abstract will be performed over both the actual abstract
and the list of variables for each dataset.
Country

Countries that are included in a data set.
Example: You might be only interested in data for
Russia. Type "Russia" in the search box and
select Country from the drop down menu. All
studies who have Russia in the Country field will show
in the results page.
Data
ID

A unique identification number used for quick
reference.
If you already know the DDCN Data
ID of a particular study, you can type it in the search
field and select Data ID from the drop down menu. Users
will select this option if they have previously browsed
our site and know the study number. We use a four digits
data id, so please make sure you enter all four digits
for best results.
Example:
The user already knows that the study on
"Stabilization and Growth" has ID 0162. Select
Data ID from the drop down menu and type
"0162" in the search text box. The result
would return this study only.
Data
Provider

Depending on the individual data set, this
field may include:
- name of the researcher who provided the data
- name of the institutions who collected the data
- name of the institution who commissioned the data
collection
Use this option if you know the
name of a researcher who published using a particular
data set. In this way, you could verify if the
data is available either at DDCN or elsewhere. Also, you
can use this option if , for example, you know that The
World Bank has commissioned a survey and would like to
see if the data is available.
Example:
Type " World Bank" and select Data Provider
field to see what data is available from the World Bank.
All
Fields

If
you select All Fields, the search will be
performed over all of the above fields: Title and
Abstract (and Variables) and Study ID and Data Provider
(Researcher and Data Producer).
