Abstract: Micro cross-section dataset of cross-nationally comparable microdata samples for Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) countries based on the 1990 national population and housing censuses in countries of Europe and North America. The purpose of the samples was to study the social and economic conditions of the elderly. Data relating to living arrangements, institutionalization status, work and retirement, housing conditions, income and disabilities were collected from the surveys.

Variables: Type of dwelling unit and the presence of amenities, such as telephones, toilets, automobiles, baths/showers, washers, and TV sets, as well as the availability of utility systems. Also covered are the characteristics of the buildings within which these dwelling units were located. Demographic and socioeconomic information on household members includes age, sex, year of birth, household composition, marital status, number of children, education, income, religion, and occupation.
